Holly, Hellerii

Ilex crenata 'Helleri'

Easily cultivated in full sun to part shade in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions, from moist to dry, sand to clay. Light, moist, acidic soils with good drainage are preferred. Established plants have some drought resistance. Plants in USDA Zones 8-9 may struggle with the heat and humidity of summers in the deep South. Because plants are dioecious (male and female blooms on separate plants), both male and female plants must be present for the female plant to be pollinated and bear fruit.
